Position Overview

Building upon its success in identifying and launching two new strategic programs at BCAA, including the award-winning Evo Care Share program, the Strategic Ventures team’s mandate is to source and develop new product and service opportunities, with the goal of both adding additional value to current and future BCAA members.
As a member of a small entrepreneurial innovation team within BCAA, the Senior Manager, Strategic Ventures provides strategic and analytical expertise for the identification, evaluation, recommendation, piloting and commercialization of potential new strategic venture initiatives for the organization. This is a multi-disciplinary position that is strategic, tactical and operational.  As such, this position has a broad focus that may include consumer and industry analysis, strategic platform analysis and design, ROI analysis, segmentation, customer profiling, pilot program delivery, program launch, and marketing campaign execution.
Key Responsibilities

The Senior Manager, Strategic Ventures role involves the management of new innovation and strategy projects, in addition to the execution of pilot projects. Key areas of responsibility include:
  • Evaluating and assessing new venture opportunities
  • Conducting ongoing secondary industry, market and competitive research
  • Using consumer insights and trends to identify key issues and opportunities for profitable brand growth
  • Creating summary proposals and recommendations for key opportunities
  • Presenting business cases to executive stakeholders
  • Developing and managing financial models
  • Managing pilot programs to evaluate and ensure new venture success
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders and external suppliers in assessing, developing, and implementing product, pricing, promotion and distribution strategies and tactics
  • Developing and implementing strategic and tactical go-to-market plans in alignment with corporate and divisional goals
  • Collaborating with the marketing team on first phase campaigns and promotions
  • Monitoring the progress of milestones and key performance indicators and undertaking actions to ensure the achievement of department goals and service level objectives
  • Contributing to the collective knowledge of the New Ventures team by keeping current with markets and news, sharing relevant findings with colleagues
Qualifications and Competencies
  • Bachelor degree or Master’s degree, preferably with a major in Marketing
  • 5+ years of relevant working experience in product marketing, product management, strategy, innovation or related field
  • Prior experience in the consumer packaged goods (CPG) or Financial Services industry is a strong asset
  • Successful track record in bringing new products or enhancements to market (from research to business case to go-to-market strategy)

  • Skilled in project and process implementation for multiple ongoing projects
  • Consumer marketing acumen – strong ability to analyze, recognize, understand and interpret consumer behaviour, brand strategies, customer needs, and to turn this knowledge into action
  • Strong understanding of brand and consumer strategy
  • Proven ability to think critically and strategically
  • Demonstrated tracking and performance planning analysis
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and P&L management
  • Demonstrated creative, analytical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Outgoing, collaborative driver with a track record in leading cross-functional projects
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
The BCAA Strategic Ventures team will be based offsite at an innovation centre near downtown Vancouver. BCAA is headquartered in Burnaby, BC right off the #1 Hwy exit at Willingdon, near BCIT.
