About You:

You work by these three principles: Leadership, “Legwork” and Logic (meaning stellar strategy makes you happy). You describe yourself as a been-there-done-that Director of Visual and UX design, with the aspirations to lead and mentor a team. You have a serious eye for detail and design, with a #StandApart portfolio that showcases your digital designs in the areas of websites, mobile apps, animations, and videos. You have an intuitive understanding of site functionality, site architecture, interactions, and interface elements and could use this knowledge to bring those “big ideas” to life.

Opportunity Overview:

Reporting to the Vice President, Project Services, and leveraging a team of Senior Designers, you will work to conceptualize and create engaging digital interactive and visual designs for projects such as responsive websites, email campaigns, mobile applications, animations, and videos.

  • Create compelling and original visual/interactive designs that align with client expectations and overall project goals and strategy
  • Own the integrity of your design by paying attention to details and proactively shepherding the design through development and final testing. Be accountable for the creative quality of the final product
  • Be the lead hands-on designer for your own projects, while art directing junior staff on their projects as needed
  • Gain and apply a thorough understanding of client needs and preferences, project objectives, scope, and deadlines
  • Collaborate closely with the Creative Director and all project contributors, including copywriters, strategists, developers, and project managers, to ensure quality, work, and support of team efforts
  • Work closely with developers to understand the technical environment for which you are designing (ie. CMS, library system, etc.), and elevate designs to meet any platform-specific constraints, rules, or opportunities
  • Organize prototyping to ensure completeness and integrity of your design and effectively demonstrate and solicit feedback on your design
  • Thoroughly annotate all wireframes with interactive specifications so that they are easily followed by reviewers (including developers) and to ensure all use cases have been considered
  • Write headlines and “big idea” copy of your own in support of your designs; collaborate with copywriters to polish and extend the writing in future iterations
  • Formally present designs—which will include conceptual ideas and design rationale—and lead design reviews to internal management and clients
  • Inspire clients and teammates with your design vision and presentation
  • Create style guides and design specifications for developers
  • Keep up with industry trends such as web, mobile, and social, and participate in or lead knowledge exchanges with peers
  • Become an expert in designing and marketing for healthcare
  • Continually innovate and extend your creative thinking to elevate the company’s offering
  • Actively contribute to project planning and estimating efforts with our resourcing team

  • 5+ years agency or other real-world digital design experience and passion for continued learning, including a mix of art direction and hands-on design
  • A strong portfolio showcasing completed digital designs such as websites, mobile apps, animations, and videos, and clearly articulating your individual contribution
  • A solid understanding of digital design principles, and the ability to apply them to complex tasks (including typography, grids, color theory, and responsive layout)
  • Understanding and experience with modern web technologies (HTML, CSS, JQuery) and familiarity with Mac OSX and mobile platforms (iPhone/iPad, Android, etc.)
  • Ability to formally and effectively articulate your creative decisions, and accept collaborative and constructive feedback in a positive manner
  • Ability to focus and work quickly under pressure in the event of tight deadlines
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and collaboration skills with internal and external audiences
  • Knowledge and execution of digital user experience principles, and ability to effectively work with user experience designers to enhance your designs
  • Innate desire to experiment with new tools and processes so you can bring even more to the table
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (primary focus on Illustrator & Photoshop), Sketch, Invision, etc.
  • Motion design experience with Apple Motion or Adobe After Effects
  • Familiar with Atomic Design Principles
  • Great attitude, no ego
