Senior Interactive Design Lead​

Smart, Savvy + Associates is #pumped to be partnering with Origin Design + Communications in their search for a Senior Interactive Designer/Art Director to join their growing team.

About You

You are a well-rounded individual who is not only digitally savvy and interactively-inclined, but who is also well-versed in branding and traditional channels. You enjoy being hands-on in design, but are comfortable flexing your “direction” muscles. Your analytical mind and background in advertising/marketing allows you to truly understand marketing strategies and implementation that delivers design that “wows” clients and their audiences! With a strong work ethic comparable to none, your creativity is heightened in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment. Collaborating on designs and developing multiple stylistic approaches to problems gets your adrenaline pumping, almost as much as hitting the slopes!

About the Opportunity

This role is the perfect combination of important conceptual design, supervisory, and executional responsibilities all wrapped up into one function. As the Art Director, you will have the unique opportunity to lead but remain hands-on throughout the design process. You will be a valuable contributor of ideas to the creative brainstorming sessions and work collaboratively with the Creative Director, designers, and copywriters throughout the creative development process.

Your Day-to-Day
 
  • Lead the creative development, design, and execution of user-focused, interactive designs targeting a variety of users and target audiences while reflecting the client’s brand and business objectives
  • Supervise, guide, and mentor the design and production team and foster an inspiring and motivational work environment
  • Work to establish and maintain the highest possible standards for materials created by the Studio or creative suppliers (including but not limited to: interactive, video, print, outdoor, and broadcast)
  • Manage and mentor Origin’s design and production team to deliver outstanding creative projects
  • Think creatively and strategically within the demands of the client brief and budget
  • Build interactive design solutions, including creating rapid prototypes and mockups as needed for user testing and product development across a wide range of technologies
  • Provide design solutions and creative input across other channels including print, outdoor, broadcast advertising, as well as video and branding projects
  • Utilize an excellent understanding of colour, responsive design, optimizing images, user controls, the capabilities of multiple platforms, and the constraints involved in designing for each
  • Maintain leading-edge knowledge in emerging technologies and participate in knowledge sharing sessions
  • Understand SEO and accessibility issues and how they relate to development
  • Work closely with Account Services to solve marketing problems through smart, well-designed marketing materials that focus both on the clients’ needs and creative integrity
  • Examine and approve finished art and conceptual material, and supervise the alteration or correction of such material by internal and freelance artists
  • Provide press-side inspection of print runs by Creative personnel when required. (To be arranged in conjunction with the Production Department)
  • Assist Studio Manager in maintaining a current list of freelance artists, photographers and other contributory talent, and recommend and direct said freelance contributors
  • Attend creative input meetings with clients and present creative internally or to clients
  • Provide on-site or on-set art direction in photo and video shoots


Your Background
 
  • 5+ years of professional design experience
  • Highly skilled in Adobe Creative Suite and working knowledge of HTML/CSS and HTML5
  • Post-Secondary diploma or degree in graphic, web, and/or multimedia design
  • Advanced design application and visual skills
  • Superior understanding of user experience design, usability behaviours, and ability to apply usability and UI standards
  • Excellent grasp of design fundamentals (fonts, typography, color, layout, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (verbal & written); team player
  • An ability to work with a development team in the iterative creation of interactive projects

Origin’s head office is in Whistler, BC home of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. And, you have the choice to work remote.
