Marketing Director

Smart, Savvy + Associates is excited to partner with iconic Canadian brand, Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC), in their search for a customer-focused Marketing Director. MEC is a retail cooperative which serves over 3.5 million members throughout Canada, supporting their participation in outdoor activities through high-quality, well-designed products. The leadership role of Marketing Director reports to the Chief Marketing Officer, and will guide strategy to drive the creation of customer-centric marketing programs that exude the magic and tradition of the MEC brand.

About the Position

As the Marketing Director, you will be accountable for:
  • Leading and developing a high-performing team of engaged professionals to deliver successful marketing programs which support organizational acquisition and retention goals
  • Combining vision and innovation to develop a marketing plan and roadmap using consumer insights, best practices, past MEC successes, in collaboration with external and internal partners
  • Growing MEC’s membership base through compelling communications paired with paid media
  • Increasing the value and profitability of the member base through targeted, meaningful communications
  • Gaining member insights to support customer journeys and identifying new opportunities for MEC
  • Managing multiple complex projects, on time and within budget

About you

The basics:
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline e.g. Marketing, Business
  • 10+ years’ experience in consumer marketing, with a focus on CRM and digital media
  • 5+ years’ experience managing a marketing team, done with an inspirational and supportive leadership style

It's an online questionnaire that allows us to get to know you more in-depth: what you've achieved, where you want to go, your views on corporate culture. It takes about an hour to complete, but we promise the investment will be worth the return so we can find you a perfect match.


We then meet face-to-face with you to flush out your OCP further and get to know you on a personal level. If following this both parties see a great fit for the role in mind, we then introduce you to our client to go through their interview and hiring process.
